Two musical icons of Brisbane's West End, Rudekat Records and Tanuki Studios are considering a new label concept to launch on the international music market. In response to slackening physical CD sales and an ever increasing online market, the new label would aim to make monthly releases in an online format through a variety of worldwide distribution networks. The new label would focus on a large back catalogue of Brisbane and Australian reggae, roots, dub and funk artists, as well as new releases from bands associated with the label such as Bobby Alu, Darky Roots and Kingfisha. Singles, remixes and dub versions will be the primary focus as well as one off collaborations by musicians in the studio stable.
The next upcoming release available digitally is Island Vibe #6 Tiki Voyager.

Every Saturday at the Boundary Hotel in West End, Rudekat Records will be hosting Cool Runnings - featuring the iriest up and coming sounds from the 'hood!
Rudekat Sound feat Sunny dread will be joined in coming weeks by such acts as One Dread, B.O.S.S, Captain Dreamboat, The Rude, Ruby Blue and more!

Rumours abound regarding the origins of trans-global record giant Rudekat Records and its founder, the enigmatic Rudi Quinzalez. In a journey that took me from Russia’s frozen wastes to sharing crackpipes with the homeless on the streets of Trinidad, I managed to get some inside information on the man behind the empire.
Born Rudolphus Quinn in Luzon City, Philippines in 1975 to Liverpool dockland gangster Mickey Quinn and high society transgender prostitute Lena Gonzalez, Rudolphus was fostered by his aunt and lived his childhood in a nunnery on the island of Mindanao.
The quiet life of meditation and abstinence only served to fuel an intense opposing reaction in his teenage years. Changing his name to Rudi Quinzalez he joined the feared Bananos Mutilados Triad.
Gaining a reputation for fearlessness, diplomacy and tea-making, he soon rose to senior level in the gang and made valuable alliances with the Yakuza and Chinese triads. By the age of 17, with the help of tattooist friends in the Yakuza, he had a complete body suit inked and it is rumoured his penis is decorated with Emperor Hu’s battle junk complete with all 47 sails.
Little is known between 1991 and 1998, save for speculation that he made and lost close to 800 million yen on various dubious business ventures the most notorious being the 300 ton haul of Cannabis off the Venezualan coast. It is also estimated that the upkeep of his scores of children and mistresses worldwide was close to 27 million Euros per year. Finally, In 2002, tiring of the media spotlight, child support agencies and running from underworld bosses, Quinzalez settled in Brisbane, Australia to pursue his musical hobbies and become a ‘legitimate’ businessman.
His underworld experience helped keep his eye sharp for opportunity and he quickly recognized Brisbane as being a future global hotspot in the world music industry.
Together with his partner in crime Winston Chadwick, they jointly operated a small café/record shack in West End called The Shire Tea House for 5 years and held weekly gigs to showcase the emerging talent of West End.
From that base, Quinzalez founded the Kuranda Roots Festival, Island Vibe and the West End Carnivale and has helped bring to Australia such artists as Chali 2na (J Five), Groundation (California), Mad Professor (UK), Katchafire, Ladi 6, The Black Seeds, Olmecha Supreme, Natiruts (Brazil), Little Bushman and many more.
